I can’t imagine that many people get lost on my modest little website, but I had an idea for a 404 page that is inspired by Now That's What I Call Music!—a series of compilation compact discs that were ubiquitous decades ago. I’m also plagiarizing myself from an old design from a microsite for a bar crawl five years ago.

You can find the 404 page here, or really wherever. My site is built in Next and it has a super simple convention for handling 404 pages which essentially boils down to creating a not-found.tsx file and placing at strategic places in the folder structure (docs).

I used this convenient little library for the 3D typography effect (even though the image is an SVG, not HTML text) called ztext, by a developer named Bennett Feely. You know that thing online where you start to look into someone’s social media posts or recent activity and sense something might be off? Either they just decided to log off for good (aka living the dream) or something worse happened. Sadly, in this case, it didn’t take too long to find out this particular person passed away a few years ago—before I even came across his work. That was a bummer. From his presence online, he seemed like a pleasant and accomplished person who left way too early. Learning this was an unexpected memento mori (am I using that right?). RIP and thanks for sharing your work with me and the world.
